Spring Garden Tour Free Recipes Online, Handmade Gifts and Personalized Gift Ideas!

Spring means birds. Coming back. Looking for homes. Singing. Nesting. Feeding young. Singing. And lots of humming, if you're lucky!

How to Attract Hummingbirds to Your Garden

Ladybug

Hummingbirds are attracted to bright colors particular red and purple tones. To attract hummingbirds plant for them. For nectar, hummingbirds are especially attracted to red and orange flowers with tubular-shaped blooms. Some of their favorites include sages such as pineapple, anise and scarlet sage. They also like phlox, honeysuckles (Lonicera spp.), weigela (Weigela florida), penstemons, beebalm (Monarda didyma), cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis), four o’clocks (Mirabilis jalapa), fuchsias and trumpet vine (Campsis radicans). To keep your hummers happy, plant a group of flowers that bloom in succession throughout spring and summer!

You can easily make your own hummingbird nectar

Hummingbird Food Recipe

You can easily make your own hummingbird food by boiling on low heat 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. Allow to boil slowly until liquid is clear. Cool. Pour into clean hummingbird feeders. Hang in garden away from overhangs so birds can easily approach feeders. Clean once a week. Food will keep in the refrigerator. (Just remember to mark it so no one mistakes it for cold water!) You can also bottle in jars and give as hummingbird gifts.
