Melody Lea Lamb Spring Bunny Art.jpgBluebird Gardens is delighted to exclusively now offer Melody Lea Lamb's wonderful original animal art in our custom baby quilts!

Inspired by the four Midwest gardening seasons, I picked out four of my favorite Melody Lea Lamb rabbit portraits, one for each of the four seasons, for our Melody Lea Lamb Bunny Seasons Baby Quilts.

A rabbit framed in green represents the freshness of spring.

A rabbit scratching an ear under a solid blue sky is a nod to summer.

Fall leaves keep a rabbit company in fall, and holy berries are in the bunny quilt block for winter.

The original Bunny Seasons Baby Quilts artwork is printed on Bluebird Gardens washable Color Plus Fabric blocks.

We can easily see Bunny Seasons Baby Quilts with baby's name and birth date embroidered in the center block; then Mom and Dad's names and siblings on each side, and grandmas and grandpas at top and bottom.

Bunny Seasons Baby Quilts baby quilts are standard baby crib-size 36x48 inches.

We can also make Bunny Seasons Baby Quilts in other custom sizes, and with other fabric combinations.

We wanted to first come up with a versatile design that would fit into most nursery decors, as well as provide value to our customers in terms of price.

The standard, crib size 36x48 Bunny Seasons Baby Quilts also makes a wonderful quilted wall hanging, easily hung with wood quilt blocks or by having us add a sleeve on the back where a curtain rod can be threaded through the sleeve.

We're so thrilled Melody Lea Lamb agreed to work with us on this exclusive, copyrighted Bunny Seasons Baby Quilts baby  quilt design.

I look forward to making more Melody Lea Lamb wonderful art pieces into Bluebird Gardens custom quilts!

four floral basket pillows.jpg

No need to throw away that favorite, torn up old quilt; you can easily recycle - well, the new term is repurpose - the old quilt into handmade throw pillows.

Because many quilts are geometric in design, their quilt blocks easily can be cut and turned into throw pillows.

Even if there's a little wear in the quilt block, you can make a pillow and the wear will not take away from the overall design.

Sometimes an old quilt has different versions of a quilt block design.

I personally prefer having different quilt blocks that compliment each other, like the throw pillows we made out of an old applique floral quilt in photo.

Once you cut out pillow shapes you want, leaving 1/4" extra for a seam, cut another matching piece for the backing, either a complimentary fabric or use another quilt block as the backing.

Sew three sides and most of the fourth side. Leave about half of the fourth side open so you can reverse the pillow; add a pillow form and hand stitch closed.

If you know your way around a zipper, you can also add a zipper along the edge seam line, then fill with a pillow form.

These repurposed quilts into throw pillows make wonderful personalized gifts year around.

Trick or Treat!

spiders.jpg
I was traveling through St. Clair, Missouri late October 2010 and came across this decorated deck full of the biggest spiders I've ever seen!

A few black bats hung under the eave; several black crows were higher up on the roof. One is perched on the edge of the deck railing.

I thought about a friend who is deathly afraid of spiders.

Of course if this was my deck, I would be thrilled!

camel.jpg"I received a camel saddle foot stool purchased in Afghanistan during the 1950's. I was wondering if you knew of anyone or links I could find sending me to someone or a group who may be interested in something like this. I enjoyed your post on bluebirdgardens. Thank you for your time."

Hi David,

Oh, my, those camel foot stools were quite the rage in the
1970s!

Since you have an original one, as opposed to a reproduction,
I'm guessing an interior designer in your area might be very
interested in that piece since the 70s are part of the retro
movement in home decor these days. Check your yellow pages and
offer to send them this photo with your asking price.

You might also consider Ebay or one of the other auction sites,
if nothing else to see if someone else has one listed and how
much they're asking for camel saddle foot stools.

I don't think it's a high value item, more of an interesting piece that could be a
focal point in a room.

Thanks for sharing and good luck!
